2024 Reading Goals

Reading Goals:

  • I am a binge reader with Kindle Unlimited, which means I tend to get sucked into the algorithm machine. In an effort to branch out this year, I’ve created my own category challenge that will force me away from contemporary romance and into topics, genres, or authors I would not as readily pick up.
  • I’m doing the “In Case You Missed It” (ICYMI) challenge by Angela & Melissa at The Book Girls’ Guide. I’ve decided to make a concerted effort to go through as many of my backlist books as possible, especially to cover the ICYMI challenge. These are books I already own and have never taken the time to read. Many of these were freebies I picked up through the years. A full list can be found in my To-Read pile on StoryGraph.

I am tracking both challenges on brackets because I can’t help myself. I’ve also doubled up on my personal challenge (two books per category), which means all told, I’m due to read 64 books between the two challenges this year.

Reading Goals:

  • I aim to read a book a week each year and am slightly inconsistent with how many I read a month, so I’m trying to avoid slumps this year. The mantra I’m adopting for this is to always be reading something.
  • I do my best to mix up the genres I read and am trying to be more intentional with variety as well this year. A specific variety goal I have is to read two classics and at least five books written before the 2000s.
  • I am constantly trying to get those around me to read and plan to read another book with my 11-year-old niece – we’ve picked The Secret Garden. Last year we finished Matilda together and it was so much fun!
  • I also participate in my Library’s yearly reading challenge, which happens to be a goal of 24 books this year.
