Lovelight Farms – Book Review

Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison

Lovelight Farms is a debut novel by B.K. Borison. Some standout items for us were the setting, character development, and writing – they were all fantastic. We can’t wait to read more by Borison.

Stella’s Christmas tree farm is in trouble, and she has an opportunity to gain exposure and win a cash prize by entering an influencer’s contest. There’s one problem, she’s single and lied and said she ran the farm with her partner. Her best friend saves the day and agrees to fake date her and help her chances of winning…what follows is an adorable story that occurs in a picturesque setting.

This book was on both of our Holiday TBR lists – mission accomplished.

…I’ve been content to go at whatever pace she needs. Happy enough with her trust and the pieces of her heart I’ve slowly marked as mine.

What did you think of the book?
The first 80% of the book was 5 stars for me. Even though I was worried when I realized this was a fake dating story. That’s not my trope.
So funny! I love fake dating, but I’m glad you liked it.
I think the friends to lovers balanced it out. That is my trope.
I really like the character development. Even for the secondary characters.
Yes, the secondary characters were so well written. In two sentences, she could convey entire personalities.
I love the town as a character, too.
And the setting was holiday without being too Hallmarky.
It really was. I loved the whole town and how happy they were when they thought Stella and Luka were dating.
Yes, they were so invested and even had the betting pool.
I absolutely loved the cats.
Yes, the names and Beckett melting with them. Just the visuals of him with them.
Oh man, Beckett and those cats could have been a whole book on its own.
I think Luka is one of my favorite book boyfriends.
He was so healthy and well adjusted.
True. He knew she wasn’t ready for a relationship and was willing to wait.
Right, honestly it was almost to fault but so sweet.
His reaction to their first kiss, which Stella flubbed, was adorable.
Yes, that was so cute. He was like “no, this is not how we’re doing this.”
I loved how he was tidy. They were opposites in so many ways.
Ahhh, straightening her shoes. So cute.
He did so much for her. The relationship was a little lopsided. What did she do for him?
I can’t think of anything…
That first cuddle scene was hot with it being pretty tame. The spice was perfect. And there were so few physical descriptions, so you didn’t get hung up on that.
Yes, it felt more realistic. Their chemistry was just written so well.
At times it felt like there was a little too much going on though. The mystery problems, the influencer, the estranged dad and his family.
Yeah it was a lot, but it didn’t ruin it. I would’ve liked more closure on some of the issues but it didn’t ruin it for me.
You’re right. The influencer. She was a little too forgiving and there was no follow through on what happened.
Yeah the whole plot was Stella faking this relationship and preparing for this visit with Evelyn and nothing really comes of it.
Maybe we’ll get that in the second book. The last 20% of this book brought my rating down to 4 stars.
That’s interesting. I rated it 4 stars too and you usually rate higher than me.
I couldn’t stand her response to him when he told her he loved her.
I seriously could’ve done without the 3rd act breakup. She needs a therapist.
Yeah. And it just didn’t feel like her backstory supported her reasoning for being afraid. She “didn’t have lifelong friends”, but really she’d been in that town since she was 13!
Yes, I get her backstory, but her severity with abandonment didn’t track.
Yes, it might have made more sense if Luka wasn’t so open about his feelings at that point. But he told her! It wasn’t ambiguous.
What else didn’t you like?
Stella totally ruined Luka’s proposal.
OH! I hated that! Even if you know it’s coming you just have to go with it. He put so much effort into it. Also it would have been the cutest proposal if she wouldn’t have ruined it
Yesssss. Still this was a great book. The writing is fantastic. And did you notice the author’s collarbone fetish?
Yes! And the stretching of the sweater. No thank you. He kept pulling it over her shoulder.
He had to get to her collarbones! LOL. Seriously, collarbone was present 22 times in the book.
We’ll have to see if it persists in the other books!
Beckett is next and I’m in love with Beckett. I’ll see if she writes about his collarbones. And the cats.
Yes. I definitely want to read the rest of this series.
Agreed. I would’ve rated this higher if it wasn’t for the ending.
Yes! I wanted her to break the 3rd act breakup mold. So much of the rest of the book broke the typical romance formula.
Yep. I can’t wait to visit the setting again.
Yes! I want to in real life. Can we please find it?
Road trip!
