I started 2024 thinking I’d aim to not buy books. Well, that didn’t last long and instead I joined the Books-A-Million Club! I just can’t resist wandering around aisles of books. Bookstores are a happy place for me – there are books (duh), it smells fantastic because of the books, and it’s usually quiet.
I bought a few full price books this trip, but most were in the sale area. And, since I’m a member, I had a coupon I was able to use. I can also justify this purchase because some books will meet the goals I have for the year. OK, now that I’m convinced it was in fact acceptable to buy more books…
The books and my justifications for their purchase are:
- 1984 by George Orwell: I read Animal Farm last year and enjoyed it. This will also satisfy my goal of reading more classics/books written before the 2000s.
- By the Book by Jasmine Guillory: I read Drunk on Love by the same author and loveddddd it! Also, this is a retelling of Beauty & the Beast, my favorite Disney movie as a child. I just couldn’t resist.
- Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjoin-Brenyah: I’ve seen so many people rave about this and it sounds so different and interesting.
- The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood: I almost didn’t purchase this since I’ve seen most of the show, but I’m glad I did! I already read this and wrote a “quickie” review for it. It also checks off one book toward my read books written before the 2000s goal.
- The Husbands by Chandler Baker: This book sounds entertaining and when I searched for it quickly the author was named the queen of the feminist thriller – so I’m excited to check out this new-to-me genre and author.
- The Testaments by Margaret Atwood: The sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale. I’m looking forward to this one, because it has mixed reviews.
- Twisted Games by Ana Huang: This is the 2nd in the Twisted Series. This will be an RBF joint-read we will post a review for.
