Book Review – Twisted Games

Twisted Games by Ana Huang is the second in the Twisted Series. The book follows the story of Bridget (Ava’s friend in the first book), a princess, and her new bodyguard, Rhys. Rhys takes his job very seriously and Bridget does not want to follow his rules. Soon, they come to an agreement, years pass, and they are unable to stay away from each other. But, Bridget’s royal status is threatening to interfere with their love story.

We gave this book 2 stars. We both found this book to be a fast read, just like Twisted Love, and we loved the support of Rhys. Unfortunately, there were some major flaws we found to be too distracting to fully enjoy the book. If you’re looking for a fast read, with spice, a grumpy/sunshine dynamic, and you’re not picky with writing and flaws, then you may enjoy this book.

After our first joint book review of Twisted Love we both wanted to read the 2nd book in the series.
We did! We wanted to see what happens with the princess and her bodyguard.
Was Twisted Games better than the first?
Maybe ever so slightly. I feel like the writing wasn’t as good?
It was pretty distracting. I did like this story better.
But… I think maybe the writing was comparable to the first. But Alex in Twisted Love was such a Walking Red Flag that the writing quality wasn’t as obvious.
Yeah, I was definitely cringing a lot in both.
Same. The analogies were strange in Twisted Games.
Right, “forget my heart skipping a beat it skipped a whole song” I don’t get it. So cheesy and doesn’t make sense. Oh and the BUTTERFLIES…..
Yes, that one! She had butterflies living in her stomach that turned into a flock of birds?
GAG. I don’t even know. It was hard to believe Rhys was a man written by a woman.
Not gonna lie at one point I asked myself if this was a parody. Are we all being conned by a man pretending to write as a woman?
Plus, she reused a few lines from the first book. The turtle on morphine.
And another hurricane reference.
There were 50 shades parallels again! His scars and trauma and her wearing adult “things” in meetings? And obviously the possessiveness and slapping?
I was hoping we were gonna skip the crazy man this time around.
Same, I wasn’t impressed with Rhys. I did love the indoor festival he planned for her, though.
I thought he was better than Alex, but had some cringey moments that were hard to overlook.
And don’t get me started on the sex scenes. The crawling, the slapping of her parts that shouldn’t be slapped, it was just not realistic.
Also, squealing is not sexy. I guess unless you’re a pig?
The writing was just distracting for me.
It seems like a book centered around spice with a lot of plot just cobbled together. The men are just so possessive.
It was a lot of plot again, but it flowed better and the different points at lease connected better.
Agreed, at least it was less plot than the last one.
But, a lot of it was unbelievable. Rhys’ C-PTSD wasn’t realistic and wasn’t necessary.
It didn’t seem to help the story along at all.
Ana just loves killing people’s parents.
She is anti-parents. LOL. It seems like too easy a way to introduce trauma.
At what point did you guess the plot twist?
I was on page 158 when I predicted it! I made a note of it.
Me too!!! I even guessed at what point in the book it would occur, but I was off by 30 pages.
Oh, that’s funny! And impressive.
I did love that these characters know Alex from Twisted Love was crazy, though.
Yes. And this was more Grumpy/Sunshine than Asshole/Sunshine like the first book.
Yes! That was a definite improvement for me.
OK, if our alternate title for Twisted Love was Walking Red Flag, what’s the alternate title for Twisted Games?
Princess in the Street?
Hahahahaha! OH THAT LINE!!!!
Why did we read this?
The hype, I guess?
I’m surprised about the hype on these books.
I think this is the last in the series for us?
Agreed.
