We agree on a lot of our auto-read authors – Emily Henry is one of them. We’ve both read all of her contemporary romance novels and we’ve even completed an RBF review of Funny Story. Because of this and many conversations about her books, we decided to complete our own ranking of the 5 currently published.
Have you read all of her books? What is your ranking?

First of all… I love the way these covers look together.
Oh my goodness, yes! This ranking was rough though – I really struggled deciding 2nd and 3rd.
Same! I had trouble deciding between Beach Read and Book Lovers!
Yes, exactly! Happy Place seemed the most realistic story line. I loved the friends and location in Happy Place.
The cast of characters made me love it.
I loved the flashbacks to how they met. That timeline was my favorite.
But we got to watch them fall in love twice which was so sweet.
I also loved the friendship and how they committed to the secret for their friends.
Right! We also watched the friendship evolve as they grew up.
Also, that book made me want an outdoor shower.
I love outdoor showers. The other scene for me was the wine cellar. That was the moment they started to give in and had a flashback.
It was sentimental and second chance trope. Plus forced proximity trope. She uses that in all her books, actually.
Yes, I loved that. | ||
So we ranked the next two different, but Beach Read was actually a tie for me with Book Lovers
It was super close for me too, but ultimately I like the MMC in Book Lovers better and felt more satisfied at the ending.
I can see that. I loved that the ending of Book Lovers was a little different. Definitely a HEA, but kind of a play on normal romcom movies
I liked that it poked fun at tropes in the beginning. She didn’t change everything for him and they still ended up together.
Both books had the Enemies to Lovers trope.
Yes, and I really enjoy that trope. I mean, I pretty much like them all.
I truly loved them both equally. And they are the two Emily Henry books that I’ve reread.
I know I want to reread Book Lovers again.
My favorite part of Beach Read was the notes through the windows. That was so damn cute. And really easy to visualize.
That was adorable. | ||
I think it’s really interesting that we had a difference of opinion on the remaining two books.
For me the pop culture references in Funny Story were just too distracting. It took away from the book for me.
Plus, she had too many character flaws to get past. I just didn’t love Daphne. But I did love the ending.
The People We Meet on Vacation had too many depressing parts for me that the ending didn’t remediate. I didn’t come away feeling great.
Yeah that’s similar to why I preferred Book Lovers over Beach Read.
I liked the friend aspect of it and the “will they, won’t they.”
The People We Meet on Vacation was the first one I read by Emily Henry.
Same. That’s funny. | ||
I gave the book 4 stars when I read it, but my memories aren’t as fond of it as a 4 star rating would indicate.
Is it because you’re comparing them to the rest of her books now that you’ve read them all?
Maybe? I just don’t have fond memories or a desire to read it again. And I usually can reread books.
I feel similar about Funny Story. I do have fond memories of it, but no desire to reread.
I can’t wait to read the next one.
When is it due out? | ||
Spring of 2025. | ||
I hope the cover coordinates with the others!
Here’s the link: Great Big Beautiful Life
Oh. It kinda does, but maybe not as cute?
The background has a lot going on. We aren’t supposed to judge them by their covers, though. 😉 I cannot wait to read another Emily Henry book. (immediately preorders it) |
