Top Ten Characters to Vacation With

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl with a new prompt each week. This week’s prompt is “Characters I’d Like to go on Vacation With.”

We each selected a book setting and 5 characters we would want to take with us. Admittedly, this one was tough since we’re both introverts, but maybe vacationing with fictional characters on islands wouldn’t be so bad after all. We hope to visit locations that inspired some of our favorite book settings someday. Two introverts planning a book-themed vacation…sounds like a great time (oh and also the actual trip)!

Meagan

This is tough for me because I’m an introvert. I need a setting with my own space and quiet and I also loathe the heat. I’d pick the remote island setting of The Scent Keeper by Erica Bauermeister. The island is located outside Vancouver in the Pacific Northwest, bring me all the cozy vibes, please.

If I haveeee to pick, the following would be my 5 guests.

  • Circe from Circe by Madeline Miller – so if I decide I don’t like anyone she can turn them into a pig. Also, she’s a witch and a master of the water – interesting and useful.
  • Offred from The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (see my review here), because she is fierce and could use the break in a calm setting.
  • Peter from Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune so he can bake for and take care of us (the setting of this book is also amazing and I want to visit it, too).
  • Marcellus the octopus from Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt so we can have a pet to keep us company. Bonus, he can fish for those who enjoy seafood (not me).
  • Dr. Jacob Maddox from Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez to be our doctor and also because he’s the best book boyfriend. I’m imagining campfire nights where we all bond over our anxieties.

It’s hard to say which of us is the most introverted (me!), so I completely agree with Meagan. I’d pretty much just be reading so who needs company? BUT, if I had to pick… I’d want to travel to Santa Valentina Island from The Honeymooner (Paradise Bay Series) by Melanie Summers. The water and atmosphere sound amazing, but it really came down to the open-air beach bar with swings.

The five characters I would want to vacation with:

  • Harrison, also from The Honeymooner. He owns the place and is the perfect combination of chill and fun. He’ll keep everyone from getting too serious.
  • Kieran from Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout. He’s so amazingly snarky. I want him to be my friend. Plus, he can double as our pet wolf, I guess?
  • Faith from The Best Man by Kristan Higgans. She’ll bring the sunshine and sass.
  • Rocio, the grumpy sidekick from Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood. She’ll know all the weird trivia answers and she’ll tone down Faith a bit.
  • Riven, Cole, and Eli from Three Swedish Mountain Men by Lily Gold. Yes, I count them as one guest because they simply can’t be separated. So now we have a doctor to care for Faith’s seizures, a sweetheart to make sure we all get along, and a guy who looks like Thor because why not?

  1. I love that you included an octopus!! I really want to read that book but I have been putting it off – I don’t know how it ends and I don’t want to cry. I also love how the two of you composed this post!

    1. Marcellus is awesome and the book is great, but I definitely needed tissues (it was worth it). Thanks so much, Erin!

  3. A bookish introverted vacation sounds great to me.

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.

  4. Marcellus! What a great pick! That would be so interesting! And Faith would be so fun!

  5. The Scent Keeper cover is gorgeous – and an island off Vancouver sounds ideal for my heat-loathing self! My TTT

  6. An island vacation in the Pacific Northwest? Yes, please! Oh, wait, I’m heading that way in a month for a cruise. Maybe I should hold my opinion until after that.

  7. I’m with Meagan. I prefer nice, quiet vacations with lots of reading and relaxing time. I can’t handle the heat, so a cool, rugged island is definitely my style too. If you invite me along, Meagan, I promise to leave you alone and let you read! LOL

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
