Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl with a new prompt each week. This week’s prompt is Books That Provide a Much-Needed Escape (bonus points if you tell us why!)
For this prompt, we each included 5 books that were an escape. We also think this could apply to most fiction, right? What’s your criteria for a book that’s a good escape?

I typically pick happy books to escape, but I also enjoy fantasy and books that take me out of my own mind and are immersive, so that’s how I picked my list.
- Honestly, any Emily Henry romance is always a good escape. I have yet to read Beach Read, because I’m saving it for when I need it.
- We both adore her books, check out our review of her most recent release, Funny Story.
- That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon was so so fun and the perfect escape. There’s some suspense, fantasy, and of course, romance.
- Get a Life, Chloe Brown and Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert are two in a series of 3 (I’m saving the 3rd for the same reason as Beach Read) that were heartwarming, fun, and written in a way I loved.
- Circe is one I was surprised to love so much, but it’s incredible and so immersive.
- The Hunger Games series is one I adored when I was younger and think it’s the perfect escape, even if it’s not happy. Bonus, the movies were fantastic, too!

This prompt was surprisingly hard for me, because reading in general is always an escape for me. And I can only pick 5. I guess I’d rather have books that are uncomplicated. Or make me sob. One or the other works equally well.
- Uncomplicated: I came across the Countless of Harleigh Mystery Series for my 2024 Challenges because I needed a Cozy Mystery category. I’ve read three so far and A Lady’s Guide to Gossip and Murder might be my favorite.
- Sob Fest: I love Mariana Zapata’s books for the slow burn romance, but Wait For It absolutely made me bawl. Diana has the most pure relationship with her nephews that she took guardianship while experiencing such grief.
- Uncomplicated: Catherine Walsh has so many cute, sweet romances and The Rebound is one of my favorites.
- Sob Fest: As Meagan said, we love Emily Henry books. Happy Place is one of my favorites for a good cry.
- Uncomplicated: Earl’s Trip was another cute historical fiction, but with more romance. Friends to Lovers is my favorite trope and this was so enjoyable.
