Top Ten Rainy-Day Reads

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl with a new prompt each week. This week’s prompt is April Showers. We curated a list of books we think are perfect for a rainy day when you don’t want to do anything but stay inside and read (most days you mean?). We hope this list showers you with ideas for your TBR list!

Alyssa

If I just need a quick, fun read on a rainy day, I’d probably go with Under One Roof by Ali Hazelwood. This is my favorite palate cleanser. (You know, those in-between books that help you recover from a super emotional read?) I absolutely enjoy Mara’s inner dialogue and Liam is just… sigh.

Meagan

If you’re looking for a genre cleanser, Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree is a cozy mystery with some fantasy and not like anything I’d read before. The story follows the journey of an Orc, Viv, as she starts her new life and coffee shop ownership. I wish I could visit this coffee shop. There’s coffee and cozy vibes – the perfect combination for a rainy day!

Alyssa

For those cozy vibes Meagan mentioned, pretty much any Susanna Kearsley book will do. Actually, I’m having a hard time picking, but probably would go with The Shadowy Horses. Verity does meet her hero on a rainy day in the Scottish countryside after all. This one really makes me want to settle in for the day. Or maybe, I’d pick The Vanished Days

Meagan

You want more cozy vibes? I’d read Bookshops and Bonedust, also by Travis Baldree. It is the prequel to Legends & Lattes, and this time there’s a bookshop. This book follows Viv’s story before Legends & Lattes and has some romance and found family. This is all parts cozy with a dash of heartwarming.

Alyssa

For a little more heartwarming, found family reading, I like The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. It’s quirky and adorable. I loved all the characters because who wouldn’t love a house of magical orphaned children who all belong to each other in the best way?

Meagan

Oh! I have a kind of quirky, unexpected 5-star read I loved. A Psalm for the Wild-Built is a novella by Becky Chambers – it’s a quick, soul-warming read. There’s also tea! It follows the story of a monk and a robot, explores an unlikely friendship and finding one’s purpose. I also love the second novella in this duology, A Prayer for the Crown-Shy.

Alyssa

Ah! Tea reminded me of The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels by India Holton. If you love a good romance book, but don’t need to take it too seriously, this spoof on the genre is perfect for you. It is hilarious, and yes, the ladies can wield weapons while serving tea.

Book cover art for The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. Top Ten Tuesday, Rainy Day Reads.
Meagan

One of my favorite, laugh out loud romantic comedies is The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. It was unputdownable for me. If you’re in the mood to stay in all day and relax, I recommend reading the book and then watching the movie adaptation.

Book cover art for The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James. Top Ten Tuesday, Rainy Day Reads.
Alyssa

Well, Meagan stole that one out from under me. So, if I can’t pick The Hating Game, my last pick will have to be something completely different. Definitely get snuggled up to follow true crime blogger, Shea, in The Book of Cold Cases by Simone James. It’s just the right amount of suspense for a rainy day.

Book cover art for The Guncle by Steven Rowley.
Meagan

Sorry for the steal, but if we both love it that means something! If you are in the mood to cry, laugh, and catch warm Palm Springs vibes, I recommend The Guncle by Steven Rowley. This is the story of an uncle who unexpectedly gets his niece and nephew for the summer while struggling with layered grief. Bonus, there’s a dog! I’m excited for this prompt and can’t wait to read what others recommend.
