Top Ten Great Debuts

This week for TTT we’re discussing Great Debuts. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl with a new prompt each week. This week’s prompt is Debut Novels We Enjoyed.

We each selected 5 novels we thought were great debuts. What debut novels would you include on this list?

Alyssa
You, With a View by Jessica Joyce
The River of No Return byBee Ridgeway
How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamastsu
The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley is one of our Top Ten Tuesday Great Debuts.
How to Solve Your own murder by Kristen Perrin is one of our Top Ten Great Debuts.

Three of these debut novels are from 2024 and I really enjoyed them. The Ministry of Time was absolutely amazing and I highly recommend. I also rated How to Solve your Own Murder 5 stars. The others were all solid 4 star reads for me. In fact I mention Bee Ridgeway in a previous Top Ten Tuesday post on authors we wish for more books from. I wish the series had been completed, but The River of No Return was still worth the read.

Meagan
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree is one of our Top Ten Great Debuts.
Book Cover for Together We Will Go by J Michael Straczynski
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby van Pelt is one of our Top Ten Great Debuts.

I’ve discussed a few of these in previous TTT posts (here and here). The Bluest Eye is beautifully written and heartbreaking, but everyone should read it. Fight Club is one I read and college and loved, it’s on my re-read list, actually. The book is way better than the movie. And, Remarkably Bright Creatures is one I thought may be overhyped because I saw it everywhere for a while. It is not overhyped, but I do think it is misrepresented as a happy, heartwarming story. This book has tremendous depth, including a theme of grief and moving on. Honorable mention goes to The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood – I loved this book!
